Pakurigo Wave 2

Ghana, or more precisely its northern part, located on the border with Burkina Faso, is the place of origin of Bolga baskets. Their name comes from the village of Bolgatanga. It is there that local artisans collect elephant straw and then cut the blades in half. Each ribbon is reinforced with a tight twist and dyed with heat. The weaving process itself was developed in ancient times and is still used today.

Bolga baskets are called “cultural carriers” by local people. Their shapes and colors embody the knowledge of people who have passed away, those who make them with respect for nature, and those who transmit this knowledge and culture to the world.

All of the baskets in our store were purchased from a friendly cooperative we work with, keeping fair-trade principles.

Dimensions: 27 x 44 cm
