Boujaad rugs are characterized by vivid colors, most often pink, red, orange, purple or green. The patterns that can be found on them are flowers, plants, abstract representations of people and animals, symmetry and asymmetry. This artisanal freedom makes customers often use them as wall decorations or blankets. Boujaads are woven from the wool of sheep that live in the Atlas Mountains. Their modern varieties may also incorporate recycled textiles, such as cotton or synthetic fibers. These rugs are less frequently woven, giving them a lightness and richness of pattern. Their surface is washed and brushed one to two times after finishing. They represent the greatest number of symbols. Red colors are associated with driving away evil spirits. Geometric patterns on carpets have a special meaning and usually wish good health, courage and fertility.
